Supervision

I am dedicated to delivering high-quality therapy services across Kentucky. As an AAMFT-approved supervisor, I focus on building the confidence and enhancing the skills of therapists. The therapists I supervise are highly competent, and I personally endorse and refer clients to them. Below are the MFT associates I am currently mentoring. I trust their expertise and encourage you to reach out to them.

Jeffrey Helton, M.S., Marriage and Family Therapy Associate

Creative Family Counseling, Lyndon

No matter who you are, your story matters. This belief is at the heart of my worldview and my approach to therapy.

I am Jeffrey, a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate in the Lyndon office of Creative Family Counseling. I recently graduated from the University of Louisville’s Master of Science in Couple and Family Therapy program and now practice under the supervision of Dr. Justin Romney, Ph.D., LMFT.

I am a North Carolina native who moved to Kentucky in 2008. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Berea College, where I studied Philosophy and English with a specialization in Creative Writing. Over time, my interest in storytelling became a passion for helping others reauthor their stories, leading me to become a therapist.

That is why I insist your story matters, even when you are stuck in life. People get stuck when beliefs and behaviors that once helped them get by no longer serve them. Getting unstuck requires doing or thinking something different—something outside your comfort zone. That means bravely experimenting with new skills and ways of seeing the world until something shifts. Although this leap of faith can be frightening, it’s not a journey you must take alone. My goal is to be your calm, compassionate, and curious traveling companion, there to create a safe space for you to explore the unknown so that you can tilt your story in a new direction.

I love working with children, adolescents, families, couples, and young adults. I aim to honor the uniqueness of all of my clients as we navigate concerns around self-esteem, anxiety, depression, relational distress, parenting, and stress management. My overall therapeutic approach blends elements of Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Solution Focused Therapy, and Positive Psychology. With couples, I incorporate techniques from Emotionally Focused Therapy and the Gottman Method. I draw on play therapy techniques and the Positive Discipline framework when working with children.

In my work, I firmly believe that everyone has the power to rewrite their story. As you walk the path toward healing, I will support you every step of the way.

Allie Montgomery, M.S., Marriage and Family Therapy Associate

Creative Family Counseling, Prospect

Regardless of your struggle, you don’t have to tackle it alone. My approach to therapy is based on the belief that a person’s well-being is influenced by their relationships, environments, and personal experiences. Together, we will work to understand the “why” behind your “stuckness” and collaboratively figure out how to move forward to create new and healthy patterns to best reach your goals.

My primary aim as a therapist is to provide support to my clients as they navigate challenges related to mental health, relationships, self-esteem, and the various stressors of daily life, and most importantly, to feel confident doing so. Families and romantic relationships should be a place of healthy and safe expression! Whether you are hoping to develop a stronger connection with your partner, family members, or even yourself, I would love to support you on your journey toward growth and well-being.

I have an integrative, client-centered approach and tailor my approach based on the needs and goals of each client/client system. I frequently utilize internal family systems techniques and parts work, intergenerational therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness when working with adult individuals. When working with couples and intimate relationships, I utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman Method, and Internal Family Systems & parts work techniques. When working with children, I frequently use play therapy techniques, art therapy interventions, and techniques from an Internal Family Systems approach.

I am a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate and graduate of the University of Louisville. I am under the supervision of Dr. Justin Romney, PhD, LMFT, for Marriage and Family Therapy licensure. I see clients at the Creative Family Counseling Prospect office & via Telehealth, and I enjoy working with children, teens, adults, couples, and families.

Before entering the world of talk therapy with couples, families, and individuals, I grew up in New York. I earned a bachelor’s in Psychological Sciences and a double minor in Special Education and Behavior Change Health Studies from the University of Vermont. I have 10+ years of experience working with children and adolescents with special needs. I began in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy and worked as a registered behavior technician for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I decided to get my master’s in Couple and Family Therapy because I believe in a holistic approach to creating successful outcomes for families facing different challenges.

Hillary Hicks, M.S., Marriage and Family Therapy Associate

Therapy doesn’t have to be solely focused on pain and suffering but can also be a place to shine a light on the joyful parts of life.

I’m a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate under the supervision of Dr. Justin Romney, PhD, LMFT. In addition to obtaining my Masters of Science in Couple and Family Therapy from the University of Louisville in 2024, I received a specialization in Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020 and my BS in Psychology from Michigan State University in 2012. As someone who began therapy as a child for panic attacks and anxiety, I have always felt inspired to provide a space of safety and hope for others on their unique journeys. I hope to help you call upon your inherent strengths to move through whatever cycles keep you stuck in frustration or despair.

Therapy can be intimidating, so I commend you for taking these steps to care for yourself and your relationships. Life always ebbs and flows, and there is no manual on how to get through challenging, new, or traumatic experiences. I believe that people are always doing their best, and I am here to support and gently challenge you to move through life in ways that feel the most in tune and aligned with how you want to grow. Therapy might look a little different for everyone, and we all have distinct ways of understanding our lives. Ultimately, therapy can provide an intentional space to slow down and allow all parts of ourselves to exist freely.

I have clinical experience working with diverse populations in school, behavioral health, and university clinic settings and specialize in working with adults, couples, families, and teens. I rely heavily on feedback from my clients so we can collaborate in ways that best suit your goals and your relationship(s). I can help with Anxiety, Depression, Life Transitions, Relationship conflict, Family conflict, Parenting, and Grief.

My approach to therapy is genuine, authentic, and centered around the relationship between therapist and client. I draw from various therapeutic modalities, including mindfulness-based CBT, Structural family therapy, Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, the Gottman Method, Solution Focused, and Art Therapy techniques. Additionally, I’m training to become a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator to help parents and caregivers gain tools to understand better and connect with their children.
